Design Software

I have an AutoCad drawing that has hundreds of house plan iterations on it. It is pretty fun to look back an see how our plans have morphed into what they are now. The file was created on January 2, 2020, getting close to two years ago now. I watched a YouTube video on how to draw a house plans on AutoCad, at that point having no idea how much time I would be spending on this digital file.

This is only a fraction of the complete drawing. Hundreds of little house plans. Every time a modification was made it was added on top of the last one.

A detailed summary of the final floor plan will be posted later. Here are some clips from some of the more detailed parts of the design drawings. I felt like I graduated from a drafting school when we sent the design drawings to the building inspector and they passed through and we got our building permit.

The other software we have used extensively is SketchUp. A very intuitive 3D modeling program that really helps to visualize what the structure is actually going to look like.

Recently I have been using it to draw every single piece of lumber that is forming the frame of the house. It is helpful to draw the house digitally before trying to build it physically, working out questions and problems in the software rather than outside on the jobsite.
