The Eleventh Hour & Roads Less Travelled

We’ve had a few developments over the past month and now a couple new ones. Near the beginning of March, we asked to rent our current property longer, maybe even a couple years longer. But the couple renting to us (who have been the most generous and kind landlords) told us they’d need to move back for commuting to a new job. Our minds immediately went to another rental property near our home build that had been offered to us before but we were told we wouldn’t be able to rent it anymore. Then we decided we could camp on our land and work on the house over the summer. Then our house would be complete and ready to move into before the weather cooled or we’d need to hunt up a rental in the area.

Then we found out there was a miscommunication and the owners of the other rental closer to our home build had thought we were asking to rent for just the summer- they would rent it to us for a minimum term of a year. In the midst of packing and moving our things Matt had a promising conversation with a bank about securing financing. Finally, the owners of our current rentals have had a change of plans and decided to make their home a permanent rental. They offered to allow to us to continue renting for an indefinite amount of time.

In other words, a lot of good options have opened (the financing one pending an in person bank meeting this week).

Which makes me wonder if this whole series of events has been orchestrated to embolden us to chase our dream. My heart tells me “The land.” But we might have played it safe before. Instead, we’ve been overcoming this mountain of a roof and widened the search for financing- including looking outside of a mortgage (which is only an option banks will offer us after the house is completed). With the financing we could have the house finished at the end of September and realize our Christmas in the house dream. This is the miracle I have been hoping, praying, fasting, and frankly weeping for.

So many roads to travel. And the road signs on this one aren’t clearly marked at times but God-willing I think we’ll keep picking the less travelled one.
